FAQs
What is a Tazuma battery, and who is it for?
Tazuma is an AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) automotive battery line carried by West Coast Batteries. Tazuma batteries are built for daily drivers, commuter vehicles, and light trucks running a standard factory electrical setup — the kind of vehicles that don't have heavy aftermarket accessories or deep-cycle demands. If you're replacing a worn-out flooded battery and want the durability advantages of AGM construction — sealed design, better vibration resistance, more consistent electrical output — Tazuma is the right fit.
What vehicles do Tazuma batteries fit?
Tazuma AGM batteries are available in five BCI group sizes that correspond to European DIN-format applications. Group 47 (H5/LN2) fits compact and mid-size European vehicles like the VW Jetta, VW Golf, Audi A3, and some BMW 3-Series models. Group 48 (H6/LN3) fits the BMW 3-Series and 5-Series, Mercedes C-Class, VW Passat, and VW Atlas. Group 49 (H8/LN5) covers European full-size and luxury vehicles like the Mercedes E-Class and S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A6 and A8. Group 94R (H7/LN4) fits the BMW X3 and X5, Mercedes GLE, Audi Q5, and Volvo XC60 and XC90. Group 24F fits popular domestic and Asian models including the Honda Accord, CR-V, Civic, and Toyota Corolla and RAV4. Use our "Find Your Battery" tool or contact us at (951) 736-3530 to confirm the right fit for your specific vehicle.
What is the warranty on Tazuma batteries?
Tazuma batteries carry a 24-month free replacement warranty for starter (SLI) applications — including automotive, light trucks, and passenger vehicles. For deep-cycle and dual-purpose applications such as marine, RV, and auxiliary power, the warranty period is 18 months. Coverage applies to the original purchaser only and requires proof of purchase or a valid date code. Warranty claims are processed through West Coast Batteries using manufacturer-approved testing procedures.
How is a Tazuma AGM battery different from the flooded battery I'm replacing?
In a flooded battery, liquid electrolyte sloshes freely between the plates. In a Tazuma AGM battery, the electrolyte is absorbed into fiberglass mats that sit between the plates. That construction difference is what gives AGM its practical advantages: the battery is sealed and non-spillable, it handles vibration better because the plates are compressed tightly against the mats, and it delivers more consistent voltage under load. These aren't theoretical — they translate directly to fewer corrosion issues at the terminals, more reliable starting in hot and cold weather, and longer service life in vehicles that see rough roads or frequent short trips. Note that "sealed" and "maintenance-free" by themselves are not AGM differentiators — some flooded batteries are also sealed. The real difference is the absorbed electrolyte construction.
When should I choose an Odyssey battery instead of a Tazuma?
If your vehicle has significant electrical modifications — a winch, aftermarket lighting, a high-draw audio system — or if you regularly use accessories with the engine off, you need more than baseline AGM performance. Odyssey batteries use TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) construction, which delivers faster charge recovery, higher sustained power output, and significantly better tolerance for deep discharge cycling. Tazuma is the right battery for a daily driver with a stock electrical setup. Odyssey is the right battery when the electrical demands go beyond starting and basic accessory support. Choosing a baseline AGM for a high-demand application is one of the most common causes of premature battery failure — not because the battery is defective, but because it was designed for a different job.
Does my vehicle need a battery registration or reset after installing a Tazuma?
Many European vehicles — particularly BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, VW, and Volvo — require a battery registration procedure after replacement. This tells the vehicle's Battery Management System (BMS) that a new battery has been installed so it can adjust charging parameters. Without registration, the charging system may continue operating on the old battery's profile, which can shorten the life of the new battery. Registration typically requires a diagnostic scan tool (such as ISTA for BMW or ODIS for VW/Audi) and takes only a few minutes. If you're installing the battery yourself, confirm whether your specific vehicle requires registration and have the tool or a shop available to complete it.
Does Tazuma offer batteries for trucks, commercial vehicles, or marine use?
Coming soon. WCB is expanding the Tazuma line to cover heavier-duty applications with three new group sizes: Group 31T for heavy-duty starting in work trucks and construction vehicles, Group 31M for deep-cycle marine use, and Group 65 for full-size trucks and SUVs. These batteries are built for the same purpose as the existing Tazuma automotive line — upgrading from flooded batteries to the reliability and durability of AGM construction — but sized for larger vehicles and equipment used in construction, fleet operations, and on the water. They're the right fit for heavy-duty work vehicles running a standard electrical setup without major aftermarket accessories or sustained engine-off power demands. If your application involves heavy accessory loads, deep discharge cycling, or mission-critical uptime, Odyssey Performance and Odyssey Extreme batteries deliver the TPPL performance tier designed for those conditions.
