FAQ

For Purchase

West Coast Batteries carries Odyssey (by EnerSys), Tazuma, and Optima (by Clarios) AGM batteries, Lokithor jump starters and portable power stations, Odyssey OBC battery chargers (5A, 15A, and 25A models), and Odyssey battery hold-down kits. Every battery we sell is an Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) or Thin Plate Pure Lead (TPPL) design — we do not sell flooded batteries. That's a deliberate decision based on nearly 30 years of experience: AGM and TPPL technology delivers better vibration resistance, more consistent power output, and longer service life across automotive, marine, commercial, and industrial applications.

Warranty

Odyssey battery warranty coverage depends on the series and application. Odyssey Extreme (ODX) batteries carry a 4-year free replacement warranty when used for engine starting in BCI or DIN group sizes, 3 years for commercial, industrial, marine, or auto starting in non-BCI/DIN sizes, and 2 years for APU, backup, or non-engine-start cycling applications. Odyssey Performance (ODP) batteries carry 3 years for commercial, industrial, marine, and auto start applications, and 2 years for APU or backup cycling. Warranty coverage applies to the original purchaser only and is non-transferable. Proof of purchase or a valid date code is required.

Tazuma batteries carry a 24-month free replacement warranty for starter (SLI) applications — including automotive, light trucks, and passenger vehicles. For deep-cycle and dual-purpose applications such as marine, RV, and auxiliary power, the warranty period is 18 months. Coverage applies to the original purchaser only and requires proof of purchase or a valid date code. Warranty claims are processed through West Coast Batteries using manufacturer-approved testing procedures.

Optima warranty periods vary by battery line. REDTOP batteries carry a 36-month free replacement warranty for automotive and truck starting. YELLOWTOP deep-cycle and dual-purpose batteries also carry 36 months for automotive, RV, marine, and powersports use. BLUETOP marine and RV batteries carry a 24-month warranty. For commercial or fleet use, all Optima batteries carry a 12-month warranty. Optima warranties are administered by Clarios, the manufacturer, through West Coast Batteries as an authorized distributor.

To submit a warranty claim, return the physical battery to West Coast Batteries at 410 Leroy Dr, Corona, CA 92879, along with your proof of purchase (receipt or invoice). Our technicians will test the battery using an industry-standard conductance or resistance tester (Midtronics or DHC) to determine whether the failure is due to a manufacturing defect. If the claim is approved by the manufacturer, a replacement battery is issued at no charge within the coverage period. Customer is responsible for removal, installation, and shipping costs.

Battery warranties across all brands do not cover: normal end-of-life capacity loss from regular use, damage from over-discharge, parasitic drain, or long storage without charging, overcharging or alternator output out of specification, use in an incorrect application (such as a starting battery used in deep-cycle service), physical damage or tampering, and purchases from unauthorized sellers or auction sites. If your battery is deeply discharged to 0 volts, that's typically considered neglect or improper maintenance and will not qualify. The warranty covers manufacturing defects — not wear from use or damage from electrical system problems.

For business customers, WCB offers an Advanced Battery Replacement service for situations where downtime is more costly than waiting for standard warranty processing. Here's how it works: you request the replacement upfront, WCB ships or issues the new battery immediately, and you're billed for it at the time of replacement. You then return the original battery for testing. If the battery qualifies for warranty, you receive a full credit. If it doesn't qualify, you keep the replacement at the charged price. For non-warrantable batteries that can still be restored, WCB also offers a Battery Rescue option for a $20 service fee — we'll recharge and refurbish the battery and return it to you.

Returns

West Coast Batteries accepts returns within 30 days of delivery, provided the product is new, unused, uninstalled, and in its original packaging. All returns require prior approval — submit a request through our Returns Request Form before shipping anything back. Approved returns may be subject to a restocking fee, and the customer is responsible for return shipping costs unless the return is due to a confirmed WCB error. Batteries returned for performance, fitment, or application issues are not eligible for return — those situations are handled through the manufacturer warranty process. For questions about a return, emailreturns@wcbatteries.com.

Fitment-related returns are not accepted under our returns policy. Batteries are heavy, regulated products, and WCB does not accept trial-fit or diagnostic returns. Customers are responsible for confirming the correct product, application, and fitment before purchasing. If you're unsure about the right group size or terminal configuration for your vehicle, contact us before ordering at (951) 736-3530 or through our website's "Find Your Battery" tool — we'd rather help you get it right the first time than process a return.

Battery Technology & Selection

WCB exclusively stocks AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) and TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) batteries because they outperform flooded batteries in the areas that matter most for real-world reliability. In an AGM battery, the electrolyte is absorbed into fiberglass mats between the plates rather than sloshing freely — which gives you better vibration resistance, more consistent electrical output, and significantly better tolerance for deep cycling and partial-state-of-charge use. Those advantages are especially important in applications like fleet trucks running liftgates, marine vessels sitting at the dock between trips, vehicles with heavy accessory loads, and start-stop systems. After nearly 30 years in the battery business, we've found that AGM and TPPL technologies deliver the best value when you factor in total cost of ownership — not just sticker price.

Odyssey batteries use TPPL (Thin Plate Pure Lead) construction — thinner plates made of 99.99% pure lead, which provides more plate surface area, higher power density, deeper cycling capability, and better resistance to sulfation during partial-state-of-charge use. Odyssey is positioned as a high-performance upgrade over standard AGM batteries, with warranty coverage up to 4 years depending on the series and application. Tazuma batteries are standard AGM construction — a reliable upgrade from flooded batteries built for everyday automotive use. They're well suited for daily drivers, commuter vehicles, and light trucks that run a standard electrical setup without heavy aftermarket accessories or deep-cycle demands, with warranty coverage of 18 to 24 months depending on application. If you're replacing a flooded battery in a daily driver and want the durability advantages of AGM — better vibration resistance, sealed construction, more consistent output — Tazuma is the right fit. If you need maximum cycle life, higher power density, or your application involves heavy accessory loads and deep discharge cycling, Odyssey is the performance choice.

WCB carries three Odyssey OBC chargers matched to different battery sizes and applications. TheOBC-5Ais suited for maintaining single batteries or smaller group sizes. TheOBC-15Ahandles most automotive and marine AGM batteries and is designed to charge AGM, flooded, and LiFePO4 chemistries. TheOBC-25Ais built for larger batteries and faster charge times in fleet or commercial settings. Using the correct charger matters — AGM and TPPL batteries require precise voltage control during charging. Overcharging accelerates plate degradation and is not covered under warranty, so avoid generic chargers without an AGM-specific charge profile.

Battery Technology & Selection

Battery Rescue is a service available through West Coast Batteries for batteries that don't qualify for warranty replacement but may still be recoverable. If your battery is tested and found to be non-warrantable, you have the option to pay a $20 Battery Rescue fee — WCB will recharge and refurbish the battery and return it to you. If the battery can't be restored, or you decline the service, WCB will dispose of the battery through compliant recycling at no additional charge. Battery Rescue is available as part of the Advanced Battery Replacement process or on walk-in batteries brought to our Corona facility.
